GPS Tracker Without SIM: Does It Exist?

Short answer

Not for live tracking. A tracker finds its position from GPS satellites, but it needs a SIM and a mobile network to send that position to your phone. Trackers sold as 'no SIM' are Bluetooth tags that only work near other phones, or loggers you read later. TWM's car and bike trackers ship with a 1-year pre-activated SIM inside, so you don't buy or fit one yourself.

Why a tracker needs a SIM

GPS is one-way. Satellites send a signal down and the tracker works out where it is. To get that position from the tracker to your phone, something has to carry it, and that's the mobile network. The SIM is the tracker's connection to it.

What 'no SIM' trackers really are

  • Bluetooth tags. No SIM and no renewal, but the range is a few metres. They update only when a phone on the same maker's network passes close by. Fine for keys in a flat. Less dependable for a vehicle that's moving.
  • GPS loggers. They record a route to memory and you read it later by plugging the unit in. You can't see where the vehicle is right now.

What the SIM costs you

With TWM the SIM comes fitted and active, and the first year is in the price of the tracker. After that you renew once a year. The wired GPS tracker for car and bike is ₹3,000 with 1 year or ₹6,000 with 3 years.
