How Long Does a Dash Cam Record?
Short answer
A dash cam records for as long as the car is on. It never stops because the card is full: with loop recording, the newest video replaces the oldest. How many hours it keeps before overwriting depends on the card size, the resolution and how many cameras are recording. TWM dash cams take cards up to 256GB.
What decides the hours kept
- Card size. Double the card, double the hours.
- Resolution. 4K files are bigger than 2K files, so the same card holds fewer hours.
- Cameras. Front and rear together fill a card faster than front alone, and the R3 records 3 at once.
We don't quote a fixed number of hours because it shifts with all three.
What this means after an incident
The clip is safe for now, not for ever. Copy it to your phone over Wi-Fi the same day. The R3, A3 and S2 have a G-sensor that locks footage on an impact, so the loop doesn't overwrite it.
If you drive long hours, buy the bigger card. See which SD card for a dash cam.
