Dash Cam With GPS: What the GPS Does

Short answer

GPS in a dash cam writes your speed and location into the footage, so a clip shows where you were and how fast you were going. On most dash cams it doesn't let you track the car live. The TWM A3 4K dash cam has built-in GPS for ₹5,990. The TWM AI Dash Cam goes further and sends live location and video over 4G.

When the GPS data matters

  • Someone claims you were speeding and you weren't.
  • There's a dispute about which road or junction it happened on.
  • You want a record of a route, on a road trip for example.

When you can skip it

If all you need is a picture of who did what, front and rear video does that without GPS. The S2 Mini 4K dash cam records 4K at the front and 1080p at the rear for ₹4,690, without GPS.

GPS in the video is not live tracking

The A3 writes location into a file on its card. It doesn't tell your phone where the car is if it's stolen. For that you want a GPS tracker, such as the wired GPS tracker for car, or the TWM AI Dash Cam, which needs its own 4G SIM and a yearly app subscription.
