OBD GPS Tracker: How It Works
Short answer
An OBD GPS tracker plugs into the OBD port, which in most cars sits under the dashboard near the steering column. The port powers it, so there's no wiring and nothing to charge. The tracker reads its position from GPS satellites and sends it over a built-in SIM to an app on your phone. If someone unplugs the TWM OBD GPS Tracker, you get an alert with the last known location.
Fitting it
- Find the OBD port. Your car's manual shows where it is.
- Push the tracker in.
- Activate it in the TWM app.
What it reports
- Live location, trip history and route playback.
- Ignition on and off, and overspeeding.
- Harsh braking, rapid acceleration and sharp cornering.
- Entry and exit alerts for zones you mark on the map.
Its limits
Cars only. It uses 2G, which is enough for a vehicle. And a thief who knows where the port is can pull it out: you'll get the alert and the last location, then nothing. If you want a tracker that stays hidden and supports engine cut-off, look at the wired GPS tracker for car instead.
